MHU Consistently Implements Sustainable Environmental Management

The Green Rating in PROPER indicates that MHU has carried out excellent environmental performance by fulfilling most of the applicable legal provisions and implementing various innovations in environmental management.

Consistently, MHU implements various strategies in effective and efficient environmental management, including:

Sustainable Waste Management

MHU, together with the community of Central Jembayan, Loa Kulu, Kutai Kartanegara, established the "Bumi Etam Lestari" waste bank as an effort to protect the environment while creating economic value. Household waste is sorted and processed into useful products, such as paving blocks and compost. This initiative is a concrete example of a community-based circular economy that not only reduces waste but also empowers the community economically.

Renewable Energy Utilization & Emission Reduction

In its transition to sustainable energy, MHU has installed solar panels at its operational facilities, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and reducing emissions by 28%. With an annual electricity consumption of approximately 1.4 million kWh, MHU has successfully reduced emissions by 317 tons of CO₂ equivalent. Moving forward, MHU plans to develop floating solar panels in post-mining ponds to further optimize environmentally friendly energy efficiency.

Environmental Conservation & Rehabilitation

MHU has reclaimed 16 hectares of former mining land to create the Busang Arboretum, which functions as a conservation area, educational forest, research center, and ecotourism site. The arboretum also serves as a local plant nursery and a habitat for endemic Kalimantan species, including the endangered slow loris. Through this rehabilitation program, MHU ensures the sustainability of the ecosystem, in line with the company's vision. “Syncergy for the Future”.
